Ophthalmology Network
William B. Trattler, MD
William B. Trattler, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist and nationally recognized leader in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. With more than 25 years of clinical experience, he is dedicated to helping patients achieve their best possible vision while advancing the field through innovation, research, and education.
Dr. Trattler serves as Director of Cornea at the Center for Excellence in Eye Care in Miami, Florida, where he specializes in optimizing visual outcomes for patients undergoing cataract and refractive surgery. He has particular expertise in the management of dry eye disease, keratoconus, and post-LASIK ectasia, and is widely known for his comprehensive, patient-centered approach to vision correction.
A pioneer in corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) in the United States, Dr. Trattler played a key role as an investigator in the FDA clinical trials that led to the approval of this sight-saving treatment. He has served as a principal or co-investigator in numerous FDA and Phase 3/4 clinical trials involving refractive surgery, epithelial-on crosslinking, intraocular lenses, and dry eye therapies, contributing to many of the advances shaping modern ophthalmic care.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Trattler is a respected educator and thought leader. He serves on the volunteer faculty at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine as Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Ophthalmology. He is a frequent lecturer at national and international meetings and has been recognized by his peers as a leading opinion leader in cataract and refractive surgery.
Dr. Trattler has been named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in the World of Ophthalmology by The Ophthalmologist and a Premier Surgeon 300 Innovator in Refractive Cataract Surgery by Ocular Surgery News. He is also the co-author of the best-selling textbook Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple, a widely used resource in medical, nursing, and veterinary education worldwide. He is a recipient of the Curtis D. Benton, Jr., MD Outstanding Young Ophthalmologist Leadership Award from the Florida Society of Ophthalmology.
Ranjan P. Malhotra, MD, FACS
Board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist and a native of St. Louis, Ranjan P. Malhotra, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a partner at Ophthalmology Associates, where he has practiced since 2000. Dr. Malhotra graduated with honors from the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s accelerated six-year Bachelor’s/Medical Degree Program in 1995. He completed his internship at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in St. Louis and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Cornea/External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City. Dr. Malhotra’s clinical expertise spans corneal disease, custom cataract surgery, LASIK, glaucoma, and dry eye. An active FDA clinical trial investigator, he has served as primary investigator on numerous pharmaceutical studies in glaucoma, dry eye, conjunctivitis, allergy, and ocular infectious disease. Named among Ocular Surgery News’ “Premier Surgeons: 300 Innovators in Refractive Cataract Surgery,” Dr. Malhotra is also a peer-reviewed author and frequent continuing education lecturer at national ophthalmic meetings. He is involved in resident education at local medical schools and the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Louis and serves on the board of the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians.
Sydney L. Tyson, MD, MPH
Board-certified ophthalmologist and refractive surgeon, Sydney L. Tyson, M.D., M.P.H. is the Founder and President of Eye Associates & SurgiCenter of Vineland, serving patients throughout southern New Jersey and the greater Philadelphia area. Dr. Tyson earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his internship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia and his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital, where he continues to serve as an Attending Surgeon on the Cataract and Primary Eye Care Service and mentors resident surgeons. Dr. Tyson is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). His areas of clinical expertise include custom cataract surgery, LASIK, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. An active clinical trial investigator, Dr. Tyson has participated in studies spanning cataract, dry eye, and pharmaceutical ophthalmic therapies. He has lectured at national and international conferences and has served as a Contributing Editor for Evidence Based Eye Care since 1999.
Damien F. Goldberg, MD
Damien Goldberg, MD, MBA, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in advanced corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery. He earned both his medical degree and Master of Business Administration from Georgetown University, completing his training at the School of Medicine and the Robert Emmett McDonough School of Business. Dr. Goldberg completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center program, followed by a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.
Dr. Goldberg is currently a managing partner at Wolstan & Goldberg Eye Associates, a multi-specialty ophthalmology practice serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles. He has an extensive background in clinical research and has served as both an investigator and principal investigator in more than 100 FDA clinical trials evaluating new medical devices and medications. He is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) FDA Committee.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Goldberg has held academic and leadership roles, including serving as a clinical instructor at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. He is currently Chief of Ophthalmology at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Torrance, California, an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He also contributes to EyeCare America, a national program dedicated to providing eye care services to underserved populations.
Dr. Goldberg has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has presented his research at conferences worldwide. He has been a reviewer and editorial board member for several ophthalmology journals.
Since 2014, Dr. Goldberg has been recognized annually as one of America’s Super Doctors. In 2016, he received the Castle Connolly Top Doctor Award and was named one of the Ophthalmology Times (OSN) Premier Surgeon 300 Innovators in Refractive Cataract Surgery.
Eva Liang, MD
Dr. Liang is highly active in clinical research and serves as a principal investigator for multiple FDA clinical trials, contributing to the development and evaluation of emerging ophthalmic technologies. She is widely regarded by her peers as a leader in surgical innovation and is frequently consulted on complex cases and evolving surgical strategies.
She is the founder of Sight for Life, a nonprofit initiative focused on delivering vision care to underserved populations. She remains engaged in global outreach through ongoing medical missions, including recent work in Kenya and St. Vincent.
Dr. Liang is a member of Cedars Aspens, a selective organization recognizing leadership and excellence in ophthalmology.
She received her undergraduate degree from Loyola Marymount University and her medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. She completed her internship at the University of Hawaii and her ophthalmology residency at Temple University Hospital.
Max Parikh, MD
Dr. Mihir “Max” Parikh, M.D., is a board-certified ophthalmologist and refractive surgeon. He is a founding partner of the Advanced Ophthalmology Institute and serves as a partner surgeon at NVISION Eye Centers in San Diego, California. Dr. Parikh graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Irvine, where he received both the Laurence Mehlman Prize and the University of California Regents Scholar Award. He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed dual fellowships in Anterior Segment Surgery and Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Sinskey Eye Institute in Santa Monica.
Dr. Parikh specializes in various procedures, including PRK, LASIK, laser-assisted cataract surgery with custom IOL technology, intrastromal corneal rings, and implantable collamer lenses. He was among the first surgeons on the West Coast to adopt excimer and femtosecond laser platforms for corneal and lens-based surgeries, and he has performed over 30,000 refractive procedures.
For over a decade, Dr. Parikh served as the official team ophthalmologist for the Los Angeles Chargers (formerly the San Diego Chargers), providing precision vision care to professional athletes and coaching staff. He actively consults and serves on advisory boards for multiple ophthalmic medical and technology companies. Dr. Parikh has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and lectures nationally to optometrists and ophthalmologists on refractive surgery techniques. His presentation on intrastromal corneal ring implantation was awarded Best Paper of Session at the 2000 ASCRS Annual Meeting.
His peers have recognized Dr. Parikh in San Diego Magazine as San Diego’s Top Doc 12 times, and he previously served as president of the San Diego County Medical Society. In his free time, he enjoys working on his tennis game.
